When selecting music for mindfulness purposes, a few things are important that one does not typically consider when choosing your favorite songs or playlists. For instance, in order to relax the mind, it is typically better to listen to instrumental music because lyrics automatically engage the listener's language processing mechanisms. In addition, music that you have a history with will also engage your mind as it triggers those associated memories. Also, listening to a typical radio station or streaming music source on the Internet is not ideal due to frequent commercials which, by design, are trying to engage your mind. To maximize relaxation, commercials need to be avoided. But there's no need to buy new music. Below are several songs written and performed by Life Blooming's Art Blevins that you can listen to and even download for free to facilitate your initial exploration into utilizing music for enhancing your mindfulness practices.
